Alison Wilding
Originally from the Lake District in the UK, Alison graduated with a Graduate Diploma in Physiotherapy (distinction) in 1987. After a few years practising in the UK in a large teaching hospital in Nottingham, she moved overseas to New Zealand where she worked at Kew Hospital, Invercargill. Alison developed her manual therapy and acupuncture skills in the late 1990’s, becoming a Registered Physiotherapy Acupuncturist in 1998. Alison moved to North Canterbury in 1996 and developed a small home-based clinic providing hand therapy and physiotherapy services to the rural community there, as well as having three children. She moved with her expanding family to Christchurch in 2000 and has worked in hand therapy since, becoming a Registered Hand Therapist in 2004. Alison developed her own practice and has been engaged in building In Touch Hand Therapy since 2010.
Alison recently undertaken papers in pain management, vocational rehabilitation, integrative research, leadership and management and health professional practice, graduating with a Post Graduate Diploma in Health Science (Rehabilitation) in 2019.
In Touch Hand Therapy gained ACC accreditation status in 2019.
Now with over 30 years of experience, Alison continues to be amazed by the impact rehabilitation, and hand therapy specifically, can make to the lives of her patients. She finds continual learning, teaching and engaging others in their career pathways particularly motivating.
Alison blends advanced expertise as a Registered Hand Therapist and manual therapist with evidence based practice and pain management strategies, believing that pain relief is only the first step in the patient journey. The purpose of hand therapy is to restore flexibility, strength and function to injured areas, as well as to helping the person achieve their goals through a holistic approach.
Outside of clinic, Alison can be found in the vegetable garden, or enjoying outdoor activities with her partner Dave, such as tramping, sailing and skiing. She also loves reading and handcrafts.
